Saturday: 17th & 24th of October

10:30am-3:30pm (Both days)

Rogart Street Campus, Glasgow

Join me in my spacious studio to learn all the basics of sewing and using a sewing machine. During this weekend course, I'll teach you all the fundamental stitches and techniques needed for sewing and we'll work on making three projects to take away with you; a scrunchie, a sleepmask and a zippered pouch/make-up bag.  Previous students' work is pictured in gallery.

This course will run across two consecutive Saturdays. In the first session (Saturday 17th of October), you'll receive an introduction to sewing on a sewing machine and will make a scrunchie in the morning and a sleep mask in the afternoon. A fabric choice for these projects will be provided.

In the second session (Saturday 24th of October) you'll be refreshed on the basics shown during the previous week and then will work on cutting fabric and making up the final project; a zippered pouch/make-up bag.

There's no need to have your own machine as these will be provided-with the option to bring your own if you have one at home you'd like to get to grips with. All materials are included apart from the fabric and zip for making your final zippered pouch-which will give you an introduction to buying your own fabric for a project. This fabric will be needed for the second Saturday and I will give you guidance so you know what you're looking for when fabric shopping.

Ideal for absolute beginners or anyone who has some experience with sewing but is looking to refamiliarise themselves or gain confidence.

Class sizes will be small to ensure good one on one time. I will provide all equipment needed for the class-scissors, pins etc., making this a great way to try sewing without having to buy any additional supplies. It's also a good way to learn the basics and see if you would like to try making clothes at my other beginners dressmaking class.

Course content includes:

Learning the ins and outs of a sewing machine
Threading a machine
Basic stitches and seams
Essential sewing techniques
Sewing a zip
Marking pattern pieces on fabric (final project)
Cutting fabric (final project)
Choosing fabrics for a project
Finishing techniques

Where to find my studio: I am located at Rogart Street Campus where ample free parking is available. Bridgeton train station is close-by and Bellgrove train station is a 5-10 minute walk away. I am also about a 20 minute walk from Glasgow city centre.

The classes will start at 10:30 am and will run until 4pm with a half hour lunch break. Lunch is not included but I provide biscuits during the class and tea and coffee on the break.

Cancellation Policy:

Classes are non-refundable if cancelled with less than three week's notice. If you are unable to make a course you have signed up for, I will transfer you to another date where possible-although I am unable to guarantee this.

Payment is for the full course, so if you are unable to make one of the sessions, that week cannot be refunded. I will catch you up on the new techniques you have missed and will provide additional time if possible around the usual class time. Unfortunately due to the time restraints with running a small business, I am unable to provide individual session to make up for any missed.

Amazing!

I can't recommend this class enough, Steph is a brilliant and patient teacher and I came away with not only three fab accessories, but the renewed confidence to get behind the needle of a sewing machine for the first time in twenty-something years!
